Miami Beach Convention Center

Built in 1957, the Miami Beach Convention Center is the largest structure of its kind in the entire city of Miami.  When it was first built back in the late fifties, it was capable of holding over 9,000 people but today it can comfortably accommodate nearly 50,000 thanks to its four massive rooms.

The Miami Beach Convention Center has played host to many historic events throughout its lifetime, starting with the Republican Conventions of 1968 and 1972.  Interestingly, the Democratic Convention was also held in 1972.  In 1964 the indoor arena was also the site where Muhammad Ali (then known by his real name of Cassius Clay) and former heavyweight champion Sonny Liston had their historic bout.

Today the Miami Beach Convention Center is used for a number of events from exhibitions to trade shows and an annual flea market.  The Miami International Boat Show, the South Florida International Auto Show and perhaps most importantly the prestigious Art Basel Miami Beach are popular events regularly held in the building that draw thousands of people each year.
